Day 73

Kai immediately sunk in waist deep. The thick brown mud was warm and even more foul smelling than he'd imagined, but the pool wasn't excessively deep and could trudge along at a decent pace. He heard Caleb jump in behind him; the mud making a sickening sucking sound rather than a splash. Caleb caught up to Kai, and when they reached the other side they decided to cover themselves in the mud in order to keep away the mosquitoes. A quick submersion was more than enough to ensure a uniform coating.

Kai placed the satchel on the bank before pulling himself out of the pool. Caleb just sort of rolled onto the shore, eager to get out of the muck. Caleb stood and made a face of disgust as he said, "No wonder the mosquitoes keep away, this stuff is rancid!"

Kai smiled and nodded, but said, "True, but notice that? That's how it feels to not be attacked by blood sucking parasites."
