"Do all the portals portals induce fear to whomever come close?" asked Caleb.
Kai thought for a moment then replied, "No, not all, but many of them do; specifically the ones under the influence of an Elemental. It's certainly a pretty good indicator of a portal."
Half-joking, Caleb asked, "So what, we just jump in?"
The color drained from Kai's face, the unnatural fear still weighing heavily on his mind. He swallowed then said, "No. No, we go back to town, get some supplies and come back."
"Supplies?" asked Caleb.
Apparently lost in thought, Kai took a while to reply, "We'll need rope to climb down... and lanterns; yes lanterns."
Caleb held out his hand in order to help up Kai and said, "Actually, the farm is much closer and probably has anything we may need, so we might as well just keep going and come back later."
