The brightness faded and the world began to come into focus. Gone was the dry northern landscape, in its place a lush green tropical jungle. Kai's eyes were wide with wonderment, he screamed, "It works! It works! I can't believe it actually worked!"
Caleb was equally stunned by what had just happened, but his reaction was to stand quietly and stare at his surroundings in awe. He'd believed that the portals existed, sure, but to actually travel through one, by holding on to an artifact no less, was, to say the least, terrifying.
Making a huge effort to speak, Caleb asked, "So, what do we do now?"
Kai continued to jump around and proclaim his joy, but stopped when he saw a large building on the horizon, tall spires towering above the jungle canopy.
