The bridge appeared unexpectedly, previously hidden from view by a small copse of tall red trees. Beyond the trees, the land dipped slightly, leading down to an old wooden bridge that spanned a narrow, but seemingly deep, crack in the ground. The crack appeared to bisect the entire landscape, stretching from as far as the eye could see from the east, to the horizon in the west.
Kai stared and said, "Amazing. What is this? It is as if the very earth parted in two here."
Caleb nodded and replied, "Indeed. No one knows exactly how it came to be. Most think it is the result of a particularly strong earthquake of some kind; others believe...a variety of stranger things."
Kai thought about that for a moment, then before he could could ask exactly what stranger things, Caleb had already moved on and was carefully crossing the old bridge.
