Day 56

Kai jogged to the edge of the crevasse and peered into the dark depths. The bridge did not inspire confidence. As Caleb crossed, the wood creaked beneath his feet, and debris dislodged and fell down into the abyss.

Caleb screamed over his shoulder, "Don't worry, it's much safer than it looks!"

Kai screamed back as he took a slow first step onto the bridge, "It better be!"

As soon as Kai's foot touched the first board, and the entire thing didn't collapse, he felt slightly reassured; the decision to take the second step wasn't much easier however.

Caleb reached the other side and turned to watch Kai make his way across. He could see the sweat streaming down the ambassador’s face; in fact, Kai was shaking with nerves. Partly to save time, partly because he felt sorry for him, Caleb stepped back onto the bridge, reached out his hand and said, "Here, give me your hand, you're almost there."
