Now covered in stinking mud from head
to foot, Caleb and Kai continued onwards towards the massive spires
jutting out over the jungle canopy. The few hours of sunlight that
remained were rather blissful, but then night fell, and with it came
the bats.
At first, one or two bats flew by
overhead and were the topic of interested discussion between the two
travelers. Then, a few more flew by, then more, then ever
increasingly more, until the entire sky above was blotted out by the
dark cloud.
"What hellish place is this?"
said Caleb nervously as his gaze darted around the swarm above.
Kai shook his head and replied, "I
don't know, but I don't like it any more than you do." He look
ahead and said as he pointed, "Look! Those lights ahead must be
where we're headed."
