They finished their breakfasts in
contemplative silence then Kai went to the bathroom whilst Caleb
finished getting ready. Apparently, sometime during the night a
servant had left fresh clothing. Caleb changed into the new clothes;
he had to admit, it felt good.
Caleb walked out into the corridor
where Kai was waiting for him, satchel in hand, accompanied by
Reginald. The Lord smiled broadly when he saw Caleb and said, "Good
morning! I trust you slept well? The breakfast was to your liking I
assume?"
Slightly flustered by Reginald's early
morning enthusiasm, Caleb took a moment to answer, "Yes and yes,
thank you very much." Reginald turned and began to walk back
towards the meeting hall where they'd been yesterday. As they walked,
Caleb said, with no segue, "Kai and I would like to offer to
slay the beast for you."
Reginald froze, turned slowly and
asked, "What did you just say?"
